Winged Bradford Pear Calabash-ish

Winged Bradford Pear Calabash-ish

Turned from a half log, and textured all over with a Dremel and a couple of different bits. I thought it would be fun to do a calabash version of a bowl in a board. The "ish" is for the natural edge. Bradford Pear is probably the best power carving wood I've come across so far. It has a tendency to burn, but with caution this is easily mitigated. 12.5"L x 7"W x 3.25"H and finished with tung oil.
Here are a couple of alternate views of the top and bottom:

That "worm track" texture looks great, Michael. Perhaps the extra time and grief to texture the interior could be eliminated - for contrast! I know, you like the challenge. ;) I'm lazy - and would probably just sand it.:p You're doing some excellent work !!!

Wow! You really have excelled at turning!! Each piece gets even better...
Thanks a lot Gabriel, that's a really nice comment! :)

Thank you Tom! You're right about the challenge--trying to get better with the technique...but, one of these days I'll pull out the sandpaper with these. The texture is my excuse so that I don't have to sand much! ;)

Big wings, suggest make it multi axis, the wing would be @ angle instead of 90°, course I never tried, just 630am musing
