Walnut Dinner Plate Set

Walnut Dinner Plate Set

For my wife. Walnut oil and wax finish. With nice wood I opted for a very simple look, no embellishments. Will be for display on the table. Likely never see mac-n-cheese with bbq ribs and beans.
Very nice Randy! That's some good consistency. Though, walnut might be the perfect wood to hide the mac and ribs grease stains. Send one my way and I'll test it out! ;)

Randy, Those are really nice--great job.

A few years ago, I got the idea that a woodturner could and should have wooden plates, so I made a bunch, though I wasn't as dedicated to sameness as you. I've been very surprised at how easy they are in use. A little water on the top, a few swipes with a detergent sponge, rinse and stand on edge. Since I hand wash pots and pans, it's almost no extra work.

Like you, I made them from flat sawn walnut rather than the more stable, and scarcer, quarter sawn. They stayed flat for a couple years, but mysteriously, when my college aged granddaughter lived with me for a semester, they warped a little and no longer are flat. I suspect she left them lying in the sink in water. So, keep the wet to a minimum and they will work just fine. BTW, what kind of barbecue sauce? (you've got my mouth watering);)

Very nice Randy! Great consistency.

Thanks for all the feedback and comments. Yes, she liked them as says she plans to use them. Will see. My oldest daughter watched me finish them up and dropped a few hints so, I now have another set on order to work on.
