Spalted Sugarberry egg on Cherry base

Nice job on the copper wire “belt”. What did you do at the joint, assuming it’s on the other side of the vessel. It makes a cool transition band!

Thanks Russ! Here is a photo of the other side. I just drilled two holes that fit the wire snuggly, and bent the ends and sized for a tight fit. I cut a small line with a skew at the transition so the wire would seat securely. Tiny bit of CA glue in the holes for security, but I don’t think it’s necessary here. If I ever take the egg somewhere, I’ll have to clean the back up a bit—got a bit too aggressive when I was pounding in the ends haha.

I’m sure it could, but MY soldering skills would make it messy. The only problem would be finding a way to tension it so it doesn’t slip off. You could probably use some epoxy around the perimeter of the wire to hold it in place, but that might mean you’d have to recess the wire into the egg a bit. Or use a bigger wire. Both would mar the effect I was going for. Though, if you could cleanly solder it, purely to mask the ends/holes, that would be pretty cool.
