The wood is from earpod tree felled from a nearby neighborhood. The fiber is somewhat loose and even with a sharp tool it produces a hairy spots on the end grain. The heartwood and the sapwood is very contrast even without applying finish. In fact, it didn't look any better with a finish. It's not a best wood to turn but I'll give it another try next time.

Thank you for the reply, Dennis. It took me a while to see the cone shape. My mind was focused on the shape of the rim which created an optical illusion that caused me to think that the turning was elliptical. :)

It's my first ear pod and I believe there's not a lot of it here in Florida. I did get some effect on my nose while turning it and it was so wet that I have discarded 3 clothes due to heavy staining. It may be good to turn this wood dry rather than wet. Thanks, Emiliano.
