Latest Segmented Turning (Inside)

To me, your block of wood in the very bottom seems like "dead space" and really doesn't match the great design of the segmenting. It seems out of place. I realize this may be necessary because the segmenting may not be possible in such a limiting space.

When I viewed this segmented turning, the thought occurred to me this unused space could become a part of the overall design......if something like the basket illusions were incorporated here. The overall design you've constructed with your segmenting could be continued right down to the very center of the bowl.

I'm sure something like this would require some serious contemplation, experimenting, and practice.....but, it seems to me that the overall visual effect could be enhanced by adding some method of continuing the design to the very center of the bowl. It would be up to you to get creative with the thought...

Regardless, Andy.....your segmented bowls are outstanding as they are.....and, I feel less than qualified to be commenting on such great efforts as yours are!

Terrific design Andy; this is one of my favorites you have done. Regarding the center of the bowl and the solid piece of wood, I find it less distracting than more. It’s like the pattern emanates from somewhere. The fact that the curve does not continue into the Walnut adds to that effect IMO. What I think would work better if you could mimic the segment rim at the base, on the exterior of the bowl. To my eye, that would frame the pattern and yield a completely segmented look on the outside. This is a small detail and strictly an opinion of another segmenter; perhaps worth thinking about! Excellent effort Andy; I can see why the wife chose it!
