Bleached Maple Ornament

Bleached Maple Ornament

I used two-part wood bleach on the Maple globe, it has been hollowed to less than 1/8” as measured with my homemade wire gage and about 2 ¼” in diameter. I decided I needed to check the thickness with more than my fingers as on my first attempt I made the inside larger than the outside. ☺ The finial and top are made of Cocobolo and make the ornament about 7 ½” tall. The beautiful ornaments Keith Tompkins makes inspired this.
This is perfect. I love ornaments but this is the one I take a picture of and strive to achieve too. Along with the birdhouse one I saw a bit ago. I now have two different ornaments to try and make by next Christmas!

superb! I've been wanting to try bleaching, as white wood like holly is just to expensive. My nephew has a huge holly in his yard that isn't in a good spot. I've been trying to convince him to let me cut it down :)
