Double Natural Oak Burl
Ryan Butler

Double Natural Oak Burl

This piece is in my Double Natural series of turnings. This series features vessels that have a natural edge opening and a solid natural bottom (the bottoms are not turned. They have no mortise or tenon but feature the natural surface of the wood).

It is 8" h and 6" d. I finished it with danish oil for a natural glow.

It is balanced, not affixed, to a curved stand which has a carved divot which the piece rests in.

See the alternate views below to see the features, especially the natural base. Thanks!

I’d love to see a video of how you did that! It is magnificent.

I like it too. Any hints on how you do it? I am going to guess that you wedge it into a wooden bowl-like "jam chuck" and hot glue it in place.
