White Candle Sconce on Spalted Box Elder

White Candle Sconce on Spalted Box Elder

I am always on the lookout at thrift stores for items useable in woodturning projects, usually I'm looking specifically for pepper mills I can rob the mechanism from. Not much luck in that area, but I did find these glass sconces for 50 cents apiece recently at a St. Vincent de Paul's store. I have no idea how they were originally held but the wheels started turning as soon as I saw them on the shelf. This one is on a Box Elder base, with some very nice spalting. 7 3/4" high, 3" diameter at the base, and one thick coat of brush-on polyurethane with some elbow grease added after drying.
Tea lights or plain wax candles will be added.
Comments of most any sort are welcome.
very nice and super idea!

Hold on there, Ken. Buying new would be sacrilege. Better to have some "one-of-a-kind" anyway. Nice work.
