I had the idea to create this fountain for about 5 years ago. It took me about 2 years, off and on, to complete it. Finally had it ready for this year’s TN Association of Woodturners symposium in late January. The bottom bowl (12” x 14”) is a tall natural edge Poplar piece. It is dyed black on the inside and handmade paper (burned on the edges) is applied to the outside. The next bowl up is Walnut burl (8 x 11). Enhanced with a bit of texturing on the band, copper wire, and copper reactive paint / patina. Next up is dyed curly Maple that is 5 x 8. It is decorated with glass tiles (grouted) and copper wire. The pitcher on the top is Monkey Pod (12 x 3.5). It is decorated with copper glass tiles and copper wire. The handle is copper tubing wrapped with decorative wire. The stand is a found object. The black disc that the fountain is sitting on is turned, dyed, and beaded. The whole thing is finished in satin marine varnish. Overall, this fountain is 4’6” tall. Without the stand, it is 2’7” tall. I had to photograph this where it will stay…in my back yard! There is a video of it in operation on my Facebook page if interested.
