The Two Trees

Green turned White Oak.. I am exploring wood movement with these pieces. The light tree is naturally finished and the dark tree is ebonized. They are fun to make and a wonderful way to show off the woods unique qualities...added a little acrylic painted design for fun.

The light tree is 5" tall x 5.5" wide
The dark tree is 5.5" tall by 5.5" wide.
nice job Greg ,these really make a statement , did you use the steel wool technique to ebonize or did you use fuming?

thats what i figured im currently exploring my different options and thinking fumming would work best for me as it wouldn't encourage warping so im thinking. this works good for you cause you like the movement i need no movement at all.

@michael alguire try India ink and a heat lamp. It's alcohol based with a shellac binder. Paint it on, dry it under the heat lamp and the alcohol will flash off pretty quickly, so no movement. Great surface for whatever your next step is.

@Carol Hall ill keep that in mind thanks im trying to see about doing one of my wheels in black. i could use segmented ebony but too costly and by the time i pierce it all that money will be on the floor lol
