Cut a spiral on the body with the Sorby Spiral Tool. Hollowed it out (on the lathe), freeing the spirals. The body is camphor wood, courtesy of Hurrican Wilma. The top and base/icecicle are Jatoba. 10 inches tall. 2.5 inch max diameter.
Keith - It wasn't too bad. Most of it was just like doing an ordinary thin walled box. I did have to take a deep breath before the final cut to free the spirals. You only get one pass because once the spirals start to come free there is no going back for another pass. It's all over pretty quick, one way or another. I've got a 50% survival rate. 3 out of 6 attempts survived.
