Xiuxin - Self Realization

Here are some of the types of vessel with finials pieces that I have been doing with carved and inlayed Chinese character. This one is approximately 18 x 6 inches. Local eucalyptus, airbrushed black. The collar was blackwood with some sap. The finial ebony. It means self cultivation or self realization, interpreted differently by Daoists, Buddhists and Confucians. For the Daoists and Buddhists, it refers to realization or enlightenment through mediation and practice, for Confucians more of an moral concept.
