Banksia pod inlay mirror

I'm doing a demo for the Chattanooga club on turning Banksia pods and Tagua nuts so I built this to show one of the options for using Banksia pods.
When I think that I've seen it all, you come up with something new. Outstanding.

What is the white wood ... maple? It looks like you have black epoxy to fill the space between the two.
 
It is maple and had an ugly gray streak in it. Of course I removed that when I routed out the groove for the Banksia Pod. It is black epoxy.
