Unique Mesquite

My favorite wood. Turned for Harold Jambers.

I haven't turned any mesquite yet. Did you burn this one a little or is the dark coloring natural?

No just an oil finish. In Austin and never turned Mesquite? Shame on you Jeff. Get one of the Tolly's to give you a piece, or come see me. I understand this sort of marking is caused by a lightning strike. Jambers took this to Pasadina to help him sell the log it came from. He tells me it worked.

Nice story on that piece. I'll turn some mesquite some time. But so far I've been turning salvaged wood - blowovers and tree surgeon removals. Also I've taken down a couple of problem oaks and turned them. Oak is not friendly to me - likes to warp and split too much.
