This is the climax of my pocket box series. The outside is smooth and plain, and the inside features some of my rose engine turning.
The idea behind this box is to create a box for the sole purpose of containing it's own design. In the words of Jeff Lavine "to keep the inside in and the outside out".
Inner beauty and inner complexity are themes I'm trying to convey.
With these inside detail boxes, I draw inspiration from the rose engine work of Dale Chase and Joshua Salesin. Although I am influenced by these artists, this design is my own. This was done with homemade machinery. It is under 3" in diameter, and it is finished with mineral oil, wax, and lots of buffing.
Please look at the detail shots as well.
It's difficult to photograph this type of thing, but I think I did alright. I tried to avoid finger smudges and paper towel lint in these photos.... ;-)
