Yew Leaves

Yew Leaves
Made from Pacific Yew
Someone here or on Wow or Wc kindly sent me this piece of amazing wood (I normally write on the wood where it came from) If it was yew please email me Id like to thank you in person
I turn these from a block the size of a house brick with no waste wood and yes the v in-between the uplifted wing is cut with the skew. In this Case about as far as I can go before the feral hits the tool rest
The act is getting the vessel to look as if its been added through the wing .This is my 5th in this series and can say this is one of my favourites. The colour of the wood is natural just lacquer finish while the wings have been carved copper leaf and verdigree followed by airbrushing with translucent mediums that give the leaves a shimmering effect.
The finial is Solomon Island ebony as Black wood was to dark whereas the contrast worked better with the browner wood .As Usual I made about 6 finials until I was happy with the proportions
