Lady in black

Hello all,
my new "Lady in black". The height is 50cm ( 20"). Do you can identify the wood ?
The body is completely hollowed. The necks are drilled and the outside turned.
Hi Nate,
yes, you are right, it's Locust. I like the contrast after treatment with ammonia between heartwood (dark) and supwood (blond). How do you say for this treatment ? In Germany we say "ruchern" (smoke).
Jo

We say "fumed". I have to admit that I did a fair bit of internet searching before answering locust. I am definitely going to try the ammonia; I can't imagine to mimic the piece of art you mastered!

Hi Nate,
I mean the contrast and the grains would be better as with the other methods to dark the wood. But !!!!!! mind the safeties with ammonia.
Jo

Lady in Black is a good title! Interesting and intriguing!
