Heres another one that combines a turned, lidded vessel with a stand, also with turned elements. The carved hornet finial and carving on the front and back panels (both sides have the carved hornets), along with the texture and color combine to make a unified design.
My work is getting bigger as I play with planes and surface textures in my carving. It took forever and my next goal is to simplify the design concept.
Its about 22 tall. It got to be Samurai hornets because I saw an exhibit of Samurai armor and thought the color and articulated designs had that kind of vibe.
