Figured Black Gum- overall 10 1/2 inches tall, 4 3/4 inches wide with high gloss wipe-on-poly. Turned aluminum between base and body, has Black wood insert. The lid has a black epoxy band with acrylic turned finial-3 1/4 inches tall.
Nice recovery Gary. The black band on the lid is an excellent addition, kind of helps to set it off! In time the memory of the frustration fades but the beauty of the piece will remain!
Beautiful work, Gary! I like the use of acrylic and aluminum.....pretty form and that black gum really shows well. That acrylic finial just sets it off......do you use regular turning tools to turn the aluminum?
I use carbide to turn the aluminum, but have a high speed 1/2 round nose ground to a special angles that I get into very tight places for the touch up that I can't get with the carbide. You can use regular high speed tools, but you will cut for a minute or two then sharpen.
