Figured Ash Hollowform

This is a piece of Ash crotch wood........walnut accents. It may go back on the lathe for some updating on the pedestal and finial........debating that as I write this...........the first pedestal broke on me, and the area where the pedestal meets the base of the form has a hidden tenon.........the size of that tenon did not leave me enough material to make a better transition to the pedestal......it is out of proportion

I will say, it looks better in person than in the picture!
Roger-

I agree with you that both the finial and base need more work to have it all flow together.

Gary

I too agree. Here are some suggestions: The proportions of your very nice hollowform to finial and base are good @ 1/3rd each. Strive for delicacy by reducing the diameters of both base and finial, making the finial the thinnest.
Dale

My 2 cents: I think also the base and finial need to look like they are a part of each other separated by the form, or of a similar profile, these look as if they are from different pieces. The ash hollow form is "spot on" and the walnut is an excellent companion.
