12" platter, spalted maple, with steel ball bearings
I'm calling it "The aliens have spalted."
I almost gave up on this piece 3 times this weekend. Things just kept not working out as I had hoped. I finally decided to just let go and see what would come out. It's 12" wide, spalted maple cut wet and left to dry on the lathe. There are steel ball bearings embedded in the top and along the base.
I like. While looking at the picture of your piece, kept waiting for the alien's to come walking out from their ship. I know about having problems with a piece, finially got it turned and is now on the finishing table. The lid had a perfect fit and of course had to do the "famious last touch," screwed it up and after two days got it back and left it alone this time.
