Red Mallee

Red Mallee burl cap. May 2005
Pretty piece of burl. I am not familiar with Mallee. Where does that come from? Would love to see the detail up closer. The proportions of the overall piece seems kind of heavy to my eye though. Perhaps a smaller base to the bowl or a thinner section to the work overall? ((Keep in mind I am a rank beginner. Take my opinions with a big grain of salt))

It sure is good to see these "older pieces" though isn't it, even if our growth in turning since we did them has put them in a different light. You will always remember the trepidation of doing them and the joy of that final buffing and passing it around to friends.

After reading your reply I looked through the rest of your gallery and really enjoyed many of the pieces there. I was especially fond of the figured afzelia piece. Look forward to seeing more of your work posted! Thanks for the reply!
