The devil's bowling ball

Maple burl, natural edge, scorched and soakd in Watco till nearly translucent. Devil made me do it! About 6" tall.
I don't know -e-, I just don't know. The scorching, well obviously I saw that somewhere else, but for the oil soak, well, here's how it came about. The rim of the work had caught fire, and as I wet the wood to put it out, the unburned sections jumped to life. Lightbulb! It worked great.

I ruined a nice one tonight. Turned it to zero thickness. If you're not making mistakes you're not progressing, right?
