Turned from a red oak log to show the natural state of decay from within. I turned more of an egg shape to capture it. This piece is 19" x 13" turned, air dried 9 months, and returned. The cracks were filled with recycled coffee grinds to match the color within. I used a series of lacquer sanding sealer and sanded between coats to get a smooth finish and it has a satin lacquer final coat. I wore safety glass under my face shield while turning and kept an arms distance while the piece was spinning. Turning it was 'fun'
Thanks for the 10 Bernie. Yes, it could be a matrix for the big black ants that love wood. I saw a few flying out as it was being turned.

I think I would have worn a bomb suit. Now was turning that really fun? Nice Job!

Thanks Larry, I had the heavy duty bibs on. I would not have turned it if it wasn't fun. I like a good challenge
