Pink Champagne Glass

I got some nice pink ivory a few weeks ago, so I had to make something special with it. The stem has a 1/4" diameter dowel of pink ivory glued into a 1/4" hole. I cut the spiral deep enough to just show the inner pink wood. All pieces were turned by hand, then the decoration was added to follow the shape with an ornamental lathe. The shape was inspired by my favorite wine glasses we received at our wedding (long time ago).

The wood is Pink Ivory and African Blackwood, size is 6.6" tall. Comments and critique are welcome.

Bill, this is an eye catcher. Do I have it correct that you turned the ivory glass with a long 1/4" dowel to fit down into the stem of Blackwood? I had never thought about doing that but you did:)). The spiral carving on the stem to allow the ivory to show through sets it off. A wedding gift inspiration to a great wedding gift. Very nice job.

Dick -- There are 4 separate pieces: top, stem, bead, and base. The stem started as a 4x1x1 piece of blackwood with a 1/4" hole in the center, then I turned a 1/4" dowel of pink ivory and inserted it into the hole. Then I turned the stem shape and cut the spirals through to the pink ivory in the center. Alignment is critical.
