Sycamore & Maple Box

The Sycamore for this box was harvested in late 2008. The box was rough turned to 10% diameter thickness with oversized tenons. The box was dried back to back and for about a year. The offset Maple finial was one of several offset finials which I turned practicing with an Escoulan No1 chuck (now discontinued), purchased at the Albuquerque Symposium. Diane liked this finial so here it is. Dont argue with the boss! Fitting of the lid with the slight pop fit was touchy even though the wood was totally dry (for Houston anyway). I did not want it so tight that it would lift the bottom off of the table and then release it to fall back down. It has just a little suction fit but will release the box bottom. The finish is 3 coats of Waterlox followed by the Beall system buffer. The box is 5 diameter x 6 high to the top of the finial.
Wow, thanks Scott! Really glad you like the finial w/box combo. My wife liked it too, so we need to thank her as well.
