Hey Wayne - thanks for the kind words. This definitely was a strange piece to turn. I use a Jet 1236 and used it on about 1000rpm for the majority of the time. Starting off I kept the speed as low as possible. This lathe doesn't have electronic speed control so it's pretty much going by what feels right. That adds to the fun! The main thing was to make sure I kept my hands away from the ends for safety. Also I primarily used a 3/8" Crown Ellsworth gouge. Can't say enough good things about that gouge. It is by far the most versitle turning tool I've used. I hope that helps a bit. Have fun and go for it, just be safe!
