Evolution

Here is another piece in my open spiral series. The tuning and finial are made of Ash and the base is a large Maple burl with the bark attached. I call this piece Evolution because it signifies the birth of art from the resources provided by nature. The open spiral body rotates slowly above the burl base via a small motor hidden inside.
This piece is featured in my new instructional woodturning DVD titled Spiraling Into Control and Im excited to announce that Ill be releasing it at the AAW symposium in Hartford CT next week. Drop by the Stubby lathe booth and say Hi!

Thanks for sharing this with us..I have been trying to make a bowl like this for quite some time. So far my results are very poor...The finial is just wonderful, and takes this type of vessel up a notch. Terrific
