Hi all
An Inro box was worn by the Japanese with it's origins from the Edo period. They were traditionally used to carry small items such as pills, identity papers etc. Later on they became symbols of status.
The bamboo is run up the cord and this was tucked under the belt of the kimono.
The box to this measures 40mm x 50mm
The box is oval in shape.
Beech, gold leaf, stains, raku beads, leather cord, black bamboo. Finished with satin acrylic lacquer to seal all the gold and staining on.
