First real Hollow Form

Don, very nice in all respects. I've been watching your neat red cedar pieces and I wonder how you keep them near their natural color. Mine oxidize and turn a dull brown regardless of the finish.

It doesn't matter what anybody else thinks!! If you are happy with it that is what matters. Developing your style because of others in my view(cause that is all it is) is silly. I think it is a great piece especially for your first form and at 1/8 inch thick. How many coats of poly did you use?

Don, it looks really good! How smooth were you able to get your insides? I'm getting close to my first successful hollow form. What type of hollowing tools are you using?

Dale C. - About the dull brown coloring, to be honest, I don't know. Maybe because I turn it and put the first coat on in the same day (?).

Kevin - I wasn't looking for superfluous styling criticisms, just what some might consider an actual mistake (like the foot isn't rounded inward enough). There are about 8 coats of poly on it. They were all done off the lathe, which I won't do again....uhggg!

Dale J. - The inside is pretty smooth overall, but I was so nervous about breaking this one, I left it as smooth as I could without using a scraper. Next time I'll have more guts. I used the Monster Hollowing System and LOVE it. Amazing how much control and sensitivity that tool has.
