Black Cherry Burl Bowl

Black Cherry Burl Bowl

This is one of those pieces that sat around the shop till I got the courage to actually turn it. Sure didn't want an "Ooops" to happen with this one. Put 3 photos up in case some of you guys wanted a good look at the grain. The photos don't show it, but it took a terrific finish. Like glass. It's 10" wide X 5" tall. Tung Oil and Beall buffed. Thanks for looking and all comments welcome, Don L.
Don-could you tell me what the wall thickness is. I have a box elder burl bowl , not as nice a shape as yours that cracked into 3 pieces. I glued back together and left it a good half to five eighths thick. I am afraid to go any further.

Hi Wayne! This was still pretty wet when I turned it. Went down to
3/16th in width. Hit it with Cedarcide wood stabilizer and put the first coat of oil on the next day. All the cracks are original. No other movement so far.
Thanks to you both,
Don L.

Don, another great looking piece. You do some really nice looking projects. Did you find the burl or buy it?

Hi Dale! Thanks for the comment.
I bought this. I've been searching for local burls for about 10 months now and only found one. Not giving up though!
Thanks for asking,
Don L.

Wow Don that is a beautiful piece. The wood is gorgeous and I like how you did the rim. Well done.
