For my Valentine

German style ring turning. Cherry, approximately 6 in. in diameter, dyed red, lacquer.
I've read about this type of turning in Lathes and Turning Techniques[/b] by Fine Woodworking, but this is the first actual example I've seen. Very nice.
 
At the risk of seaming romantically uninformed, does this piece have a function or is it more decorative?

Thanks for the kind comments guys. Don, one function I can think of is, well, uh, ... maybe a paperweight? Seriously, I would consider it as only decorative.
