AAW January 2010 Contest

This is a hollow cap from the side of a Hickory tree that my brother in law Marty brought me at Christmas. I have turned many natural edge bowls before, but this time I turned a natural hollow bowl. I left the hollow uncut and turned the bowl around the hollow. I filled the hollow with wooden balls to help balance the blank which was attached to a face plate via an intermediate plywood disk. The bowl is 11" x 4".
Beautiful piece, I have serveral Maple burls that look similar and have been wondering what to do with them now I know, thanks for the idea....Bill N.
