These have cherry bodies, turned 4 times. The finials and icicles are walnut and ash. They are about 8 inches long.
The fall 2007 issue of American Woodturner has a very informative article entitled A systematic approach to Multi-Axis Turning by Barbara Dill. Thank you Barbara! On page 38 under #7 Assembling wood to make a split (inside-out) turning there is this simple little phrase: Four square spindles are turned together and then each rotated two to four times.
I have been doing inside-out turnings for several years but the concept of turning the pieces 3 or 4 times had never entered my mind. Turning the pieces 3 or 4 times opens up so many new options.
