Challenge Bowl

I guess we've all had a piece of wood that looked like it wasn't even worthy of the firewood pile. This is mine. It was given to me by a buddy who found it while cutting firewood and thought I could use it. Man, this was ugly. Twisted grain, rotting, bark were it doesn't belong, cracks and so forth. Not wanting to disguard his generosity, I decided to go for it. After a bunch of coffee filler, CA glue and a false bottom, this is how it turned out. The places that look like brush strokes are the natural wood. The grain did bring a smile to my face. Thanks for looking and all comments welcome, Don L.
very nice, Don

Hi Oddie!
The coffee filler was used in the center of the bowl only (top and bottom), where there was a big void that popped up. The rest is the natural wood.

Don, It sure doesn't look ugly now. The grain & color is fantastic. Well done. I have never heard of using coffee before. Do you use fresh grounds??

Hi Lou! I use, used ones, but I'm told it doesn't matter much. There are many threads on this subject that can help you better than I. I use this method (still working on it) on walnut or when I want to duplicate bark.
