Burl Oak

Oak burl cut from a 150 year old give or take, red oak. Stabilized live bark 10" x 8'' finished with Tung oil.
How do you stabilize bark? I’ve been told it can’t be done. Bark is impervious to cactus juice etc, I was told. I was also told that the structure of bark is that moisture passes right through it. It does not hold any resin. I soaked it in resin for a day then left under resin for 10 days. When removed the weight it just floated. Weighed no more then when I started. Do you use crazy. Glue or something to hold it on?

My understanding and experience is when you turn it green and seal green the bark will stay on . Others may have different experience. I once made a maple sapling walking stick and I peeled the bark off of it with great difficulty, but stabilizing it green with sealer is what I think works.
