Burgundy Palace
Burgundy Palace consists of Bloodwood and Purpleheart laminated on an alternating bias, and was an award winner at the 28th annual international Design in Wood Exhibition in Del Mar, California. The genesis of Burgundy Palace sprang from Satine Dream which was my juried entry in the 2008 California Contours exhibit on the historic Camino Real (American Woodturner Spring 2009 p.64). Maple and Ebony detail the rim with a Bloodwood triangle inlay completing the interior. While the herringbone pieces were allowed to have a random fit, the vertical joints on this piece were designed to line up perfectly giving the piece a chatoyant three dimensional illusory effect. The grain is completely filled with a lacquer finish which was polished to an optical high gloss then waxed with Mother's carnuba car wax.
