My wife doesn't like me to tell on myself, but I think that the truth will "set ME free," and perhaps inspire others to have another go at their mistakes.
I had the finish on this thing (no ebony, only the line in the top)... It was DONE! I was turning the tenon off when the vase popped off in my hand, WITH A (little) HOLE IN THE BOTTOM...%*$&#@? ^%*$^
I set it aside for WEEKS, waiting to get my confidence back with it. I was waffling between cherry burl or Gabon ebony. I went with the ebony and "finished" it.
With the finish "buffed out," I showed the boss... She sent me to the "wood shed" to get the finish right. I agreed, and went back to work.
NOW, it has a finish that only needs 600 and up, buffing and wax.
There are a few rough edges, which I can address when the poly really dries, but I feel really good about this one. Of course I will have to get $1000.00 for it to make the time investment pay off, but I saved a nice piece of wood. What else matters?
