The bowl measures 9 1/2 inches wide and is 4 1/4 inches tall and 3/8 inch wall thickness. After mounting the Spruce blank and tuning to the shape that I had in my mind, cut two small beads and wire burned. Between the two beads I laid out a zigzag pattern. Next came trying to figure out how to cut the trough for the pattern. I wanted the trough to be 1/4 inch wide and 1/2 inch deep and holding up a small router with a 1/4 inch bit, realized that I couldn't cut a straight line. After some coffee and head scratching, built a jig that aloud me to cut the pattern that I wanted. With the trough cut, next I cut 1/4 inch Oak dowels to glue in at the points of the pattern. Without them the colored epoxy that I used would run all over the place. Then using 5 minute epoxy, I poured into 3 of the zigzag troughs at a time. when I set and giving it another 15 minutes, mixed another batch an continued the pour. The reason that I wanted the troughs 1/2 deep was that I wanted it to show inside of the bowl.
After turning the bowl and sanding it shot it with aniline dye starting from the bottom up with black, purple then blue. The blue was too dark so I washed it with alcohol to lighten it up. Reshot it with black, purple and lighter blue dyes. Letting it dry for several days then started putting the finish on it of 7 coats of high gloss wipe-on-poly.
