Black Willow Plan B

This is the bottom half of what was to be a 30" black willow vase. During drying the top of it warped and cracked too much for a second turn to work out. I tossed it into the scrap bin and a few days later decided to at least try to make something out of it. I cut it in half and shaped this out of the bottom. 13 1/2" tall and thin from top to bottom. During the process a big knot near the bottom came out and I lost it somewhere in the shop so cut off a sliver of a dead limb from the yard and trimmed it to fit the big hole. Shellac finish.
Thanks Russ. I think we all get those pieces sometimes where we get determined to find a way, make it into something and not throw away the investment we've made. Sometimes they work out and can even be better than the original plan. Sometimes they end up back in the scrap box.

Thanks Alan. Black Willow is a real pain to work with so my initial investment in work was tempered a bit by the work to finish what I had left, especially now that the inside had to be finished like the outside.
