Black Gum 1

Black Gum 1

One of my customers from a local market contacted me about a black gum tree that had to be taken down on her property. It had a great deal of sentimental value to her and the family. She had grown up with the tree and played in and around it when little. So far she's purchased all the pieces made from it and wants more for extended family members who also want something. This is one of two of the final pieces that will be delivered next week. It was my first time working with black gum. The fibers are twisted, interwoven and run in different directions. 8" tall.
Thanks. I've done a number of times when people have wood that's important to them or they just want to give away. I give them one piece of their choosing at no charge and they can purchase more at a good price. I keep the rest.

I have a great many black gum burls on my property. The wood is difficult to split for firewood, Regardless, it cuts like butter and when sanded, there is little dust, just little ball bearings rolling off of the workpiece. Black gum trees can live up to 400 years.
