At The beach

At The beach
This is the second piece I was working on while on holiday
Pohutukawa branch turned with some carving and colour added
Turning the under cut for the legs was a trick
Turned wet the work dried in an oval shape and the rim dropped on one side so I went with the flow and continued the curve down the vessel
The paua was added to complete the inspiration of this work
The tall ungainly figure of the Pohutakawa tree, The flowers in bloom at Xmas and looking through the trees to see the beach sparkling.
I think I have captured the joy full feeling that can be had at the beach, a barbe , a beer and the cicadas singing
I am pretty happy with this piece but always welcome your impression and eye for improvements
I see how you can say your are pretty happy with this piece. I would be happy with half that if I could do it. Beautiful, Terry.

Just had some great news This work just won Ist prize in ornamental woodturning and supreme exhibit at the 2010 Royal easter show 120 entries were received in the competition
