Ash calabash

Ash calabash

Calabash bowl from an ash crotch. Walnut pewa joining some cracks. No foot, just a little dimple. Some great figure in this piece. About 7″ diameter, 3-1/2″ tall. Walnut oil finish.

Wow looks great, really unique piece of ash
Thanks.
This was originally a fairly large crotch, but lots of worm tracks in the sapwood. I was soooo tired of dealing with the worms in this tree that I cut away all the sapwood. Turns out to be a fairly effective strategy for leaving just the good crotch figure. Calabash shape with the piths left in helped preserve/capture the figure, too.
