This supported bowl was turned using multiple techniques and hardwoods. The three legs were turned off-center on a therming rig using spindles formed from alternating segments of Canary Wood and Zircote (most likely). Therming creates multiple copies of turned spindles with all surfaces curved. The bowl was turned on-center from a block of Walnut and the edges were cut to form a triangular shape. Texturing, coloring and carving were used on the edge embellishments. The middle support block was made from Bubinga. Over all the bowl is 8 inches in diameter and stands 8 ½ inches tall. The shape is reminiscent of ancient flame holding bowls used in Roman and Greek times. Finish is Watco oil buffed on the Beall system.
