Pierced Bradford pear, walnut icicle, 7 in. long.
Lovely piece, great execution.

Would you care to share some details about the piercing technique?

Rich

Thanks Rich. I don't mind sharing at all. No secrets, you just have to turn thin, in the range of about 1/8 to 3/16. Piercing is done with a high speed drill (dental drill or the NSK drill). I've gotten used to the dental drill, but others find the NSK more desirable. If you can, watch Binh Pho's DVDs on thin turning and decorating which are excellent resources. For the ornaments I use dry wood (I really like Bradford pear because of it's close non-distinct grain), but for larger pieces I prefer to start with green wood. Contact me if you'd like.
