This is a piece of figured silver maple that I recovered from a tree surgeons log dump. Subsequently the blank spalted and gave a nice pattern but still left most of the figure on the rim unchanged. I chose to have the ogee shape and wide rim as flatter surfaces highlight this type of grain best, and then used direct lighting to best capture it. The bead acts to frame the bowl depression from the rim. The finished piece is 10 3/4" Diameter and 2 1/8" tall.
