Its fun seeing how these turn out for the visual impact and I was very pleased with this one. I especially like how the contrasting woods form curves even though they are steps .

Jeff, that is an amazing piece. How do you get both spirals identical?

Hello Lou. Glad you like my spirals.
After glueing the 4 x 2 by 2s and turning them to a round blank that is parrallel in diameter and the ends also I decide on my offset and how many to the circle. Then I mark them on one end, in this case 16 segments in pencil and then one center point that will be the center of my top step. I then hold the piece in a 4 jaw chuck and transfer the lines of the segments on the OD to the opposite end as exact as possible. Then to turn each step I rotate the piece in the chuck to each line for each step. With practice the line up accuracy of the 2 spirals comes. I hope that explains a little better my process?
