1941 Red Mallee Burl.
Odie

1941 Red Mallee Burl.

Original block was 16% MC, and after roughing, it took a total of 15 months to stabilize. 7 5/8" x 3", 1 lb 2.0 oz, sanded to 600gt, Danish oil natural, Beall 3-step buff. Has undercut rim. Sold for $285. Red Mallee burl is one of my favorite Australian burls.
The arrangement of the embellishment lines on the top and sides reminds me of some of the furniture produced in the '30's and '40's. Kind of a streamlined art-deco look and feel.

Art Deco from the 30's and 40's huh?

Yeah.....I like it! :)

Thanks for the comment, Monty....

If I could critique my own work, I see the 5 detail grooves near the inside rim are not evenly spaced within the space allotted to them. I remember noticing this after it was too late, and the bowl was already finished.....but somehow missed it while cutting those grooves. It would have been fairly easy to correct this, if I had noticed this while I was still in the tool stage of this bowl. This has been a bugger for me with other bowls, as well, but I usually get the grooves a little better spaced than on this bowl.
