1843 Quilted Maple.

1843 Quilted Maple.

Finished 5/19/2022, Bowl blank was originally 10 1/2" x 2 3/8" and had a MC of 20%. After roughing and anchorseal, it took a total of 10 months to stabilize. Final size is 10 1/8" x 2 1/4", 11.6 oz. Sanded to 600gt, Danish oil natural, Beall 3-step buff. I find quilted maple to have it's own unique set of turning considerations, in that the swirly grain pattern necessarily means you're turning against the end grain in a number of places throughout the circumference. Sharp tools and good technique is a must with this wood...
