Emory oak, of the red oak group. The tree had rot at the base, which caused it to come down. There are some real nice colors near that rot. The emory oak is the large oak in the Burro Mountains, the southwest part of the Gila National Forest. There were many faults and cracks, so after drying, I cast this in epoxy casting resin. This #hydrant is modeled after a design produced by Glamorgan Works, of Lynchburg, VA, which was patented in 1897. The base is 5-1/2" diameter, and 13-3/8" to the base of the harp.
